LEGOLAND® Windsor resort is a family theme park in Berkshire. The resort was opened on the previous Windsor Safari Park site, founded by the famous Billy Smarts Circus in 1969. The LEGO® Group considered over 1,000 locations before settling on the 150 acre site. As soon as all the previous animal residents were safely re-homed, work began on the park.
The first ever LEGOLAND® was built in Denmark and its British equivalent continues in the tradition of offering a fantastic day out, aimed at children from three to twelve years of age. Visitor numbers have steadily increased from 1.1 million in 1996 - its opening year - to 1.9 million in 2011, according The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead official website.
As well as rides that are based on familiar characters and box sets from the LEGO® toy collection, visitors can enjoy looking at expertly constructed models. These are often on a grand scale, and are likely to be much larger than those they construct at home! Also, children are encouraged to make LEGO® models of their own at the sites workshops, maybe drawing on their surroundings as an inspiration.
A World of LEGO® to Explore
The park is made up of 11 lands, each with a different theme, these include; Miniland, where the cities of the world are recreated in LEGO®, and the Knights Kingdom, a fantasy journey through old England that includes a rollercoaster named The Dragon. Each area offers retail and refreshment outlets, as well as themed attractions.
However, new attractions are opened regularly. One recent addition that looks set to be a summer favourite is the water activity area, Duplo® Valley Splash and Play. It has slides, huge animals to explore and boasts the accolade of being the largest UK open air Water Park.
A second major crowd puller for the 2013 season is the LEGO® Legends of Chimera 4D Movie Xperience, where guests are taken on a day trip to the mythical land of Chimera. 4D is an incredible way to entertain the whole family, as well as sound and 3D vision, you better warn the little ones about the stunning physical affects they can expect when stepping into Chimera.
The Force in Miniature
Another attraction premiering in 2013 is the LEGO® Star Wars™ Miniland display. Fans of the classic series can get up close to three foot high models of all their favourite characters. Look for Yoda, Anakin and Princess Leia amongst the star studded cast, a visual treat for enthusiasts of any age.
The site is in an accessible and attractive area of the UK, with the royal residence at Windsor Castle located less than 10 miles away. Many guests chose to extend their visit, staying in the local area while visiting the park could not be easier. There are a huge variety of Hotels nearby.
A longer break gives you the freedom to explore and relax at your leisure. There’s no worrying about a long drive home or packed motorways, simply chill out on a comfortable bed and enjoy a hearty breakfast before setting off. Spend one night or more at the Holiday Inn Farnborough hotel and make it part of your short break experience.
